About this place

Alappuzha (Alleppey) is Kerala’s best-known backwaters town, about 30 km from Kaduthuruthy. Canals, houseboats and a beach on the Arabian Sea make it a popular day trip from the homestay.

You can cruise the waterways — from a short canal ride to a longer stretch on Vembanad — walk the town, visit the lighthouse near the beach, or spend time on the sand. It is busier than Kumarakom, with more boats on the main canals and more visitors in the middle of the day. If you want a quieter hour on the water, start earlier or ask for a smaller canal rather than the busiest jetty.
