Kumarakom sits on Vembanad Lake, about 20 km from Kaduthuruthy. It is one of the quieter backwater stretches near us — coconut groves, village canals, paddy on the bunds, and the bird sanctuary along the water.
A half-day or full-day visit is easy from the homestay. Guests often take a canoe or a short houseboat stretch through the canals, watch birds in the sanctuary (migratory flocks in the cooler months, resident herons and kingfishers year-round), and eat a simple Kerala lunch by the lake. The pace is slow: you sit, look at the water, and pass village jetties rather than rush between sights.
Morning is usually calmer on the water and better for birds. We can help you plan the timing and arrange a car; boats and cars are charged separately. Tell us if you prefer a quiet canoe, a short cruise, or time at the sanctuary, and we will suggest a realistic route.
