About this place

Kottayam is the nearby district town, about 22 km from Chackos Homestay. Guests use it for everyday needs: shops, pharmacies, hospitals, banks, ATMs and onward travel by bus or train.

Around the town there is also plenty to see: the seasonal pink water-lily fields at Malarikkal (best when the flowers are fully open), the Kodimatha boat jetty, quiet stretches of the Meenachil River, and green paddy and palm country toward the Vembanad backwaters. It is the gateway to Kumarakom as well.

A short visit fits easily around breakfast or an afternoon — combine town errands with a photo stop at the lilies or the jetty when the season is right. We are happy to point you to the right place or help with a short ride; transport is extra when we arrange it.
